ブランドカラーが変わり続ける?特色 vs CMYK解説

公開日 Shanghai Yoofo Packaging Products Co., Ltd. 2026-10-01

"Our logo red never prints the same twice." Almost every brand has been there. The root cause is usually the wrong printing method: CMYK and spot color are two different things.

CMYK (four-color) builds every hue from cyan, magenta, yellow and black dot screens — right for photos and gradients. The catch: each color is *mixed* on press, so the same file prints slightly differently today versus next month, this factory versus that one. Using it for a brand color is like describing paint over the phone — close every time, identical never.

Spot color means mixing one dedicated ink to your brand color and running it on its own press unit. If your brand red is Pantone 186C, the factory mixes a bucket of 186C and runs the whole batch with it. The color is *printed*, not *mixed* — batch-to-batch and year-to-year stability is on another level.

Three rules of thumb: ① logos and primary brand colors — always spot, no exceptions; ② large flood areas in a brand color — spot recommended; ③ product photography and gradient artwork — CMYK is fine, don't waste the unit.

One color-matching tip: write the Pantone number into the contract, or mail the factory a physical swatch. Saying "a deeper red" over the phone means nothing.

Spot-color printing is routine for us — our Heidelberg 9+2 runs nine print units plus two coaters, so spot and CMYK go through in a single pass. Accurate color, no efficiency lost.
